OUR APPROACH
College Counseling: Our Mission

In keeping with Poly's mission to educate the whole person, college counseling is not separate from the ongoing academic and personal counseling that encourage the development of individual strengths in each student. Our approach is to foster confidence and competence in each student and dispel undue anxiety about college admission.

Our Dedicated Staff

Our college counseling staff includes the director of college counseling, an assistant director, two college counselors (who are also classroom teachers), and an administrative assistant. (See staff listing and bio's to the right.)

A separate team of Poly teachers also works with individual students as they develop their college application essays.

Our Program

Our main office is located in Room 121A, on the first floor outside the Student Center. Here, students can pick up information and keep track of upcoming college visits, which are posted on the bulletin board.

While the Internet (see our resources page) provides a wealth of information, College Counseling also maintains a small college video collection. Special mailings, announcements in the bulletin, advisories, and homeroom meetings are used to keep students informed about upcoming events.

College Counseling also offers a roster of workshops and information sessions for parents and students.  The office also arranges visiting days for admissions staff from colleges and universities.  Please check our calendar for information about these important events.
