On Friday, January 25, the 9th grade class will be participating in our annual Martin Luther King serviceday. These servicedays are an important part of the work we do in pursuit of our mission of character development, and have proved valuable in exposing students to a wide variety of fields in which they may choose to volunteer.
Students will travel off campus and volunteer for a variety of non-profits around the city. We have worked hard to find organizations that are doing important work for the community and that also will be able to provide a meaningful educational experience. Students will arrive at Poly as normally scheduled, attend our morning assembly and then board buses to serve at their respective organizations. The buses will return to Poly by approximately 2:00 PM.
Please send your child to school with their own bag lunch that day (if that won’t be possible, please let Elijah Sivin and your child’s dean know in advance). Students should also come dressed respectfully and appropriately to do physical work (comfortable, modest clothes, no open toe shoes, etc.).
We’re confident that this will prove again to be a significant and meaningful day for the students.
