  • Summer Day Camp Nurse - July 2 through August 10, 2018

    Summer Day Camp Nurse (July 2 – August 10, 2018)
     
    Poly Prep Summer seeks a State of New York Registered Nurse who will serve as one of two day camp nurses during this six-week period.  The candidates who fill each of these two available positions will be team players with a blend of medical and administrative experience.  Each camp nurse reports to the Camp Health Director, and work in Poly Prep’s Camp Health Office, a clean and air-conditioned space, and attend to health situations as needed that span our 25-acre campus.
      
    Qualifications:
    • State of New York Registered Nursing License, Active
    • Current Certification in CPR
     
    Experience:
    • Pediatric experience
    • Camp employment experience desirable
    • School employment experience desirable
     
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Supervise the care of all cases of illness and accident to campers and staff
    • Operate the Camp Health Office and maintain supplies and equipment
    • Supervise the general health history and safety of campers and staff
    • Complete written reports
    • Contribute to the positive relationships between staff, campers, camp administrators, and camp families.
     
    Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:
    • Maintain standards of camp policies and procedures
    • Cope with emergencies with good judgment
    • Recognize potential health and safety hazards
    • Read prescriptions and health exams
    • Recognize common childhood illnesses
    • Awareness and experience with children ages 3.5 through 15 and young adults
    • Keep organized and accurate records
    • Communicate effectively with campers and staff
    • Provide necessary instruction and experiential learning opportunities to campers and staff
    • Communicate with parents and medical personnel on a daily basis.
    • Observe camper behavior and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
    • Get to remote locations on camp property quickly in the event of an emergent situation
    • Use the telephone, fax, computer, and camp software program
    • Observe and assess unsanitary or unhealthy conditions of camp
     
    Working Environment/Physical Demands
    • Camp activity areas are spread over many acres.  Staff can expect to walk outdoors as needed throughout the camp day.
    • Lifting or carrying campers may be required
    • Must be willing to authorize a full criminal background investigation as well as a review by the NYS Sex Offender Registry in compliance with Article 13-B of the Public Health Law
    • Flexibility in schedule as an emergency situation may demand
     
    Nurses with children who are camp aged are eligible for camperships within our program.

  • Head Counselor – Summer Experience Day Camp

    Qualifications:
    • Consistent availability between Monday, July 2 and Friday, August 10
    • College graduate with demonstrated experience managing groups of children
    • Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR.
    • Must submit physician record of physical examination with immunizations prior to June 1, 2018
    Position Overview:
    • Responsible for the daily management of a single group of campers in a specific age range
    • Lead campers through their daily activities
    • Directly supervise a team of counselors
    • Support activity specialists in leading camp activities
    • Help train 1-2 Counselors in Training (CITs) within group
    • Communicate with campers’ parents during dropoff and pickup
    • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
  • Counselor – Summer Experience Day Camp

    Qualifications:
    • Consistent availability between Monday, July 2 and Friday, August 10
    • Senior Counselors must have completed their first year of college or equivalent and have demonstrated experience working with groups of children
    • Junior Counselors must be at least 16 years of age with demonstrated experience working with groups of children
    • Must submit physician record of physical examination with immunizations prior to June 1, 2018
    Position Overview:
    • Assist Head Counselor in managing a specific group of campers
    • Provide campers with physical and emotional safety and overall positive camp experience
    • Assist the Activity Specialists in the full range of camp activities
    • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
    • Many opportunities for responsibility and leadership
  • Activity Specialist – Summer Experience Day Camp

    Qualifications:
    • Consistent availability between Monday, July 2 and Friday, August 10
    • Lead Specialists must be college graduates with demonstrated experience in teaching and classroom management in their specialty area(s)
    • Assistant Specialists must be at least 16 years of age with demonstrated experience working with children in specialty area(s)
    • Must submit physician record of physical examination with immunizations prior to June 1, 2018
    Poisition Overview:
    • Design and teach a rich and varied curriculum in specialty area
    • Lead age appropriate specialized camp activities
    • Develop working relationship with group counselors
    • Assist in camp special events
    • Specialties include, but are not limited to: sports, visual arts, drama, dance, group games, circus, martial arts, ceramics, photography, architecture, filmmaking, and tennis
    • Work with either 3-7 year old or 8-13 year old age ranges
    • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
  • Counselor – Poly Performing Arts Camp

    Qualifications:
    • Consistent availability between Monday, July 2 and Friday, August 10
    • Counselors must be at least 16 years of age with demonstrated experience working with groups of children
    • Counselors must show experience and demonstrate a passion for the performing arts
    • Must submit physician record of physical examination with immunizations prior to June 1, 2018
    Position Overview:
    • Assist program directors in managing a specific group of campers
    • Support the teaching of a specific performing arts specialty area
    • Provide campers with physical and emotional safety and overall positive camp experience
    • Help supervise campers in program areas such as outdoor play, tennis, swim, and lunch
    • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
  • Counselor – Specialty Camps (June and August)

    Qualifications:
    • Consistent Monday through Friday availability for each week of employment
    • Available one or more of the following weeks:  June 18, June 25, August 13
    • Counselors must be at least 16 years of age with demonstrated experience working with groups of children
    • Experience in Specialty Camp Program area (i.e., Sports, Tech, Science, Art)
    • Must submit physician record of physical examination with immunizations prior to June 1, 2018
    Position Overview:
    • Assist Camp Director and leadership team in managing a specific group of campers
    • Provide campers with physical and emotional safety and overall positive camp experience
    • Support instruction in specialty area
    • Assist with other required supervision or camp support
    • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
    • Many opportunities for responsibility and leadership
  • Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor

    Qualifications:
    • Consistent availability between Monday, July 2 and Friday, August 10
    • Consistent Monday through Friday availability for each week of employment during Specialty Camps
    • Must be at least 16 years old with current lifeguard certification
    • Additional certification in Water Safety Instruction (WSI) is preferred
    • Must submit physician record of physical examination with immunizations prior to June 1, 2018
    Position Overview:
    • Supervise and guard all aquatic activities
    • Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to help prevent and to manage injuries
    • Rescue campers as needed
    • Utilize first aid and CPR and other emergency management services as needed
    • Enforce responsibly all pool rules and regulations
    • Assess each swimmer you teach and complete a progress report for each swimmer at the end of the program
    • Instruct campers ranging in age from 4 to 16
    • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
  • Kitchen Assistant – Summer Experience Day Camp

    Qualifications:
    • Consistent availability between Monday, July 2 and Friday, August 10
    • Must be at least 15 years old
    • Desire to work in the food service area
    • Must submit physician record of physical examination with immunizations prior to June 1, 2018
    Position Overview:
    • Assist in the preparation and service of nutritious lunches to campers
    • Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment
    • Assist in the packaging and distribution of food for use outside the camp dining hall
    • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
  • Office Assistant – Summer Experience Day Camp

    Qualifications:
    • Consistent availability between Monday, July 2 and Friday, August 10
    • Must be at least 15 years old
    • Desire to support camp administrators with daily organizational tasks and errands
    • Must submit physician record of physical examination with immunizations prior to June 1, 2018
    Position Overview:
    • Assist administrators in some of the following areas:  nurse’s office, special events office, attendance office, camp office
    • Help campers safely move around campus when not with their camp group
    • Run errands and deliver messages around campus as needed
    • Support camp groups with additional camper supervision as needed
    • Assist in the delivery of campwide special events
    • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
