Registration

Can you help me plan my child’s Poly Prep Summer?
Absolutely! Please call us at (718) 836-9800, ext. 3220 or email us at polyprepsummer@polyprep.org.

Should I register early?
We encourage you to register your child early for Poly Prep Summer Camp programs. We accept registrations on a first-come, first-served basis, and once a program has filled to capacity, we open a program waitlist. All programs are limited in size so that we may offer the best service to each camper.

What happens if my family’s plans change? Is my deposit refundable?
We know that families want a secure plan for their child’s summer, but we also realize that families’ plans change. As a result, while you must pay a deposit to secure your child’s place in camp, you may request a deposit refund until May 1, after which your deposit will become non-refundable. Deposits are refunded within 30 days of your email request in the same form of payment you used initially.
 
Can my child register for only three weeks of a six-week program?
No.  Both Poly Performing Arts Camp and Summer Experience Day Camp require registration for all six weeks.  Staff are dedicated to building strong communities of campers during this period to maximize each child’s experience. Performing Arts campers risk being able to perform in the final performance if they are absent for an extended period of time.  Please note that we do offer weeklong Specialty Programs in both June and August.

What's Included

Do all summer camp programs include swim time?
Nearly all of Poly Prep Summer programs include time in one of our three swimming pools. Summer Experience offers both instructional swim and recreational swim periods, whereas other programs include free swim only.  The only programs that do not include swimming are Shiphunt:Engineering Camp, Handwork Studio, Fashion/Machine Sewing, and Academic programs.

Do you provide bus service to camp?
Poly Prep Summer partners with DiMino Bus Service, Inc. to provide a reliable, round-trip transportation option to campers. A family-run business, DiMino prioritizes service, comfort, and safety for its riders.  The fee for bus transportation is charged in addition to camp tuition.  Visit our Bus Transportation page for more information.

Do all camps include lunch and snacks?
We serve healthy lunches and snacks to campers who are enrolled in our full-day programs! Campers self-select their daily lunch and snack from a menu of fresh, delicious options.  All menu items are nut/peanut free, and each day our menu offers a dairy-free choice.  Our lunch program is unable to accommodate ANY other allergies or restrictions. The Summer Camp Day

How long is the camp day?
All full-day programs run from 9:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. with drop-off beginning no earlier than 8:30 A.M. and late pick-up ending at 4:00 P.M.  The times of morning-only academic programs and afternoon-only swim programs vary as noted on specific program pages.

Do you offer an early drop-off or extended-day option?
At this time we do not offer an early drop-off or an extended-day option.  Campers may not arrive on campus earlier than 8:30 A.M. as they will be unsupervised.
 
Who will be working with my child?
The Poly Prep Summer leadership team is comprised of teachers, coaches, nurses, and specialists who in sum represent hundreds of years of experience with children.  Our directors, many of whom are Poly Prep faculty members, are selected for their maturity, creativity, and proven experience with children. Our directors are supported by hand-picked professionals and college and high school students, who work as a team to help campers blossom into confident youngsters.

What will be my child’s daily schedule?
For Summer Experience Day Camp, you can get a sense of daily activities by viewing the program descriptions of each grade-level division.  Once your child is assigned to a specific camp group, you will receive a weekly schedule, which will make you aware of how he or she will spend each day.  We do not post schedules for our Specialty Programs, as much of the schedule is determined after we know the grade and skill level of each camp’s enrollees.

Can you place my child in a group with his friends?  
Our oldest campers frequently tell us that their reason for returning to camp year after year is to spend time with the friends that they first made at camp. In Summer Experience, we try to honor one grade-level friend request per camper when assigning our groups.  However, we also place great value on helping campers develop new friendships each summer while nurturing the old.

How will camp keep in touch with me?
Email is the main tool we use to communicate with camp families both before and during the camp season. If an issue or concern arises that is specific to your child, a member of our camp leadership team will contact you by phone.  If you ever need to speak with the director of your child’s program, we would be happy to connect you through our main camp hotline.

What is your policy on electronics?
We believe that summer camp is a place for your child to connect with other campers in the real world and not the virtual world. We strive to provide a program free from electronics except in places where we have thoughtfully incorporated them. Please do not permit your child to bring cell phones, video games, or other electronics for use during the camp day as we cannot be responsible for those items.
