PA Updates About Events Throughout April

Welcome back! I hope you all had a restful Spring Break and are happy to have your students back in school (I know I am!). April is a busy month and this is a long update, but I wanted to try to capture everything that is happening at school.

April Is Earth Month
On March 14, before the break, Brian Filiatraut, Director of Sustainability, attended the MS/US coffee and walked us through all that he and his team are working on at Poly. His recent parent presentation can be viewed here

Did you know:
  • 80% and 55% of current waste is composted or recycled at the Park Slope and Dyker Heights campuses, respectively
  • Poly is actively working on ways to increase those numbers and be a Zero Waste School by 2020!

Sustainability Social: Connect with parents who are passionate about sustainability issues and learn more about Poly’s work in this area

The Nathan & Estelle Feldman Sustainability Speaker & Prize: Ken Berlin, who with former Vice President Al Gore heads the Climate Reality Project, will speak about how his organization is working to combat climate change in politics, business, and communities around the world. Is the Green New Deal feasible? How can busy families work toward more social / environmental justice?

Parents’ Association Open Meeting: April 8, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Memorial Chapel, Dyker Heights campus

Parents’ Association Executive Board Election Update
We received 36 nominations with a total of 21 people nominated. Of that total, 7 people declined and 14 accepted. Information about each candidate will be shared with the community this week.
