The Student Service Board is organizing a non-perishable food drive until January 24. All canned and boxed food items would be greatly appreciated (here is a list of preferred items), but please no glass items. Donations should be placed in the donation boxes which are near Ms. Lizzi's desk in the front hall, by the Tower entrance, or in the Trophy Room. If every student and adult in the Upper School brings in two non-perishable items, we would be able to collect over 1,100 food items to donate.
For this drive we are partnering with the AHRC. AHRC is “A family governed organization committed to finding ways for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to build full lives as defined by each person and supported by dedicated families, staff, and community partners.” AHRC has asked Poly for our help in gathering food so that their students with disabilities can give back to the community, too. Those who are interested should also consider putting in a few hours volunteering alongside AHRC at their Martin Luther King, Jr Day event. They will be coming first to collect food on January 17 (so donations next week are particularly appreciated), and on our January 24 Service Day for the 9th grade, we will again package food up with them to donate to those in need.
Finally, we hope that the community will use this drive as a way to remember our dear friend and colleague, Liane Dougherty, and her lifelong effort to make her students aware of global and local hunger.
AHRC and the Poly Prep Student Service Board appreciate your help!
