Adam Benay first set foot on the block that is home to the Poly Lower campus in 2010. A Vermont native, he was on a Middlebury College trip to New York City to live commentate a Quidditch World Cup, and he was staying with a friend, a fellow commentator, who grew up on the aforementioned block. This friend happened to be a Poly alum, and Adam spent his first-ever night in Brooklyn with a group of Poly alumni, talking, laughing, and eating what was at that point the best pizza Adam had ever had (Pino’s). In 2014, Adam moved to New York City, where he continued to hang out with that group of alumni at Pino’s, and where he entered the world of education by teaching for programs like Breakthrough New York and Say Yes to education, and by tutoring children from the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. In 2019, he returned to Poly’s Lower School as an Associate Kindergarten Teacher. In 2023, he stepped into the role of Grade Four Head teacher covering for a colleague.
