“Children’s natural creativity is what draws me to teaching. As an adult, I’ve tried hard to remain connected to the openness children have toward the world, which helps me to get along easily and naturally with kids. By talking to children as equals and remaining open to their ideas, you can learn a lot, while also helping them to learn about themselves.”

Sam joined Poly Prep as an Associate Teacher in the fall of 2022. He moved to Brooklyn in 2020 after earning his bachelor’s degree in English from Skidmore College, and worked as a film production assistant until deciding to start a career in teaching. His love for learning and creativity brought him to Poly Prep. In addition to teaching and communicating with kids, he is passionate about writing, film, and music. He spends much of his free time reading and writing creative fiction and watching old movies. On weekends he’s often attending concerts or wandering around Brooklyn taking photos. Sam hopes to help inspire his students to fully harness their creativity and imaginations when it comes to reading and writing, and knows they’ll help him to do the same himself.
