  • DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

    Poly Prep, one of the most diverse independent schools in New York State, seeks applicants for the position of Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Our K-12 school, located on two campuses, cherishes the multifaceted diversity of our community as an essential component of our students’ education.     PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Responsibilities: 

    • Creates, fosters, leads, and advocates for the school’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice programs and policies.
    • Collaborates with students, employees, parents, Board of Trustees, and alumni to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through appropriate programs, meetings, committees, and other outreach.
    • Fosters cultural competence and social justice by working with department chairs to promote inclusive curricula.
    • Empowers students to act as agents of progressive change.
    • Oversees and coordinates professional development for employees as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, and maintains a resource website to support their work.
    • Organizes and facilitates the work of diversity coordinators in all three divisions.
    • Serves as voice in discipline by working with the division heads and deans.

    • Promotes the work of the school’s Institute for Ethics and Leadership in collaboration with the Director of Service Learning and Director of Sustainability.


    Additional Responsibilities: 

    • Designs and organizes annual Community and Diversity Day programming.
    • Coordinates student, adult, and family affinity and alliance groups.
    • Supports and/or co-leads SEED seminars (training/willingness to train in National SEED Project’s New Leaders Week highly desired).

Faculty Employment
  • LOWER SCHOOL ASSOCIATE TEACHER

    Poly Prep seeks applicants for the openings of Elementary Associate Teacher. This list is meant to highlight the important responsibilities inherent in teaching at Poly Prep Lower School. It does not, however, represent 100% of what teachers do on a day-to-day basis. Other tasks arise and teachers are expected to fulfill all duties to the highest standards of competence, skill, and efficiency. Ideal candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in education.


    Teaching Responsibilities

    • Work closely with Head Teacher to teach core subjects related to the age/grade assigned
    • Help assess student progress and maintain records; assist in the writing of reports; attend parent/teacher conferences–lead some conferences as experience and need dictate–to be determined in conjunction with head teacher and Director of the Associates Program
    • Participate in weekly grade-level planning meetings
    • With Head Teacher, update curriculum outlines to reflect changes
    • Accompany students to special subject classes as needed
    • Attend Student Support Group meetings
    • After consulting with Head Teacher, communicate additionally with families about student performance when needed
    • Administer ERBs or other standardized tests as determined by the administration and teaching team
    • Participate in all class field trips
    • Be able to lift forty pounds, assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children

  • LOWER SCHOOL ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT AND LEARNING SUPPORT DEPARTMENT CHAIR

    Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Academic Enrichment and Learning Support Department Chair (Lower School). The Director will lead the Lower School learning department in implementing an effective student support process. This person will also provide and coordinate academic enrichment and support services to meet the learning needs of all students.


    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Facilitate team meetings with all relevant stakeholders to identify student needs, connect with appropriate resources, outline instructional approaches and strategies, monitor progress, and ensure proactive communication.
    • Collaborate with Lower School Learning Support Department members and other faculty to create and provide math and literacy enrichment for students in Grade 1 through Grade 4.
    • Teach students with diverse needs approximately 75% of time.
    • Ensure the provision of remediation, support, and enrichment to individuals and small groups of children during, before, and/or after school.
    • Observe students in classrooms at the request of faculty, administrators, and families to identify student needs and provide guidance with respect to internal and external supports.
    • Oversee the reading and interpretation of the results of neuropsychological evaluations; synthesize information; and develop a related action plan as appropriate.
    • Serve as a resource to faculty by supporting curriculum development and professional learning to best meet the needs of all students.
    • Support our three-year associate teacher program, coordinating professional development through meetings, coaching, and feedback and observation cycles.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:  Master’s Degree in Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education or another related field.

    Experience:  At least seven years of experience teaching elementary learners with diverse needs.

    Specific Skills:  Training in Orton-Gillingham and experience using this methodology; in-depth knowledge of reading and writing curricula and experience in training teachers in reading and writing pedagogy; demonstrated experience in differentiation, enrichment, and intervention strategies; expertise in the Student Support (SST) process and/or Multiple Tiers of Student Support (MTSS)t; facility with a variety of common academic and behavioral assessments.

  • GRADE 4 HEAD TEACHER

  • MIDDLE SCHOOL AND UPPER SCHOOL LEARNING SPECIALIST

    Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Middle School/Upper School Learning Specialist. The Middle and Upper School Learning Specialist is an integral member of the student support team and will collaborate with various constituents within the community in order to develop interventions and outcomes-driven student support plans while also contributing toward the design of exceptional curriculum and implementation of best-teaching practices. The ideal Learning Specialist will have a passion for teaching and learning, a proven track record of meeting the needs of a diverse set of learners, enthusiasm for working with adolescents and their families, flexibility, and a sense of humor.


    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Work with students to provide support in large or small groups, as well as individually
    • Create and oversee the execution of student learning and accommodation plans with input from teachers as well as outside service professionals, including summarizing neuropsychological evaluations.
    • Develop and teach differentiated curricula designed to reinforce student learning and explicit skill development across a variety of content areas. 
    • Collaborate with teachers in designing currciula, classroom interventions, and assessments and regularly track student progress. 
    • Work in conjunction with all members of the student support team, including deans, division heads, psychologists, and school nurses, in ensuring student support and helping to ease transitions.
    • Maintain Learning Center office hours for student drop-ins, including one afternoon after school.
    • Prepare and curate workshops, special presentations, and resources for colleagues and families throughout the year.
    • Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, faculty, and outside service providers.
    • Attend community events throughout the school year and participate in extracurricular activities with the students, as a part of the country day school model.

    • Attend and contribute to meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to departmental, committee, divisional and grade-level meetings
    • Attend community events throughout the school year

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related discipline is required
    • Master’s degree preferred

     

    Experience:

    • 3 years of teaching experience in high school science is preferred
    • Working knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards and current pedagogical trends in science education
    • Experience in teaching science via inquiry-based approaches
