  • DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

    Poly Prep, one of the most diverse independent schools in New York State, seeks applicants for the position of Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Our K-12 school, located on two campuses, cherishes the multifaceted diversity of our community as an essential component of our students’ education. This position, central to our mission and core values, calls for an individual whose vision, commitment, and interpersonal skills will contribute to robust programming and policies to ensure an equitable and inclusive environment for students, employees, and families. 


    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Responsibilities: 

    • Creates, fosters, leads, and advocates for the school’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice programs and policies.
    • Collaborates with students, employees, parents, Board of Trustees, and alumni to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through appropriate programs, meetings, committees, and other outreach.
    • Fosters cultural competence and social justice by working with department chairs to promote inclusive curricula.
    • Empowers students to act as agents of progressive change.
    • Oversees and coordinates professional development for employees as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, and maintains a resource website to support their work.
    • Organizes and facilitates the work of diversity coordinators in all three divisions.
    • Serves as voice in discipline by working with the division heads and deans.
    • Promotes equity in hiring and admissions.
    • Promotes the work of the school’s Institute for Ethics and Leadership in collaboration with the Director of Service Learning and Director of Sustainability.


    Additional Responsibilities: 

    • Designs and organizes annual Community and Diversity Day programming.
    • Coordinates student, adult, and family affinity and alliance groups.
    • Supports and/or co-leads SEED seminars (training/willingness to train in National SEED Project’s New Leaders Week highly desired).
    • Attends and contributes to meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to: department, committee, division, policy, counseling, and grade-level meetings.
    • Contributes to school events such as open houses, parent/curriculum events, Board of Trustee and Alumni Board of Governors meetings.
    • Organizes student and employee attendance at yearly NAIS PoCC/SDLC Conference.
    • Participates in school events such as attendance at homecoming, alumni events, and other significant dates throughout the school year.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School and the Assistant Head of School, Academics.

  • ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR

    Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Admissions Counselor, a seasonal position from October – December. The Admissions Counselor will support the admissions team in meeting applicant families and building relationships with those families.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Interview prospective students and families in the Admissions Department.
    • Design the virtual interview process in response to the COVID-19 pandemic: consider access, equity and the constraints/opportunities of the virtual space.
    • Incorporate feedback from industry best-practices (EMA, NAIS, etc. resources) when considering the virtual interview structure and space.
    • Design both a group interview and one-on-one interview protocol for Middle and Upper School students.
    • Design an updated interview feedback form to accurately capture the new interview process.
    • Build the virtual interview schedule and manage the schedule. Liaise with applicant families and with the admissions team in order to optimize scheduling.
    • Meet with members of the Poly community, including teachers, students, student leaders and parents in order to learn our community culture. Convey this culture effectively to applicant families.
    • Interview prospective students and families from October through mid-January in the Admissions Department.
    • Complete interview write-ups for each applicant.
    • Attend admissions team meetings and share lessons learned from the interview perspective.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:  Bachelor’s degree required.

    Experience:  Three years of experience in education.  Admissions experience preferred.

Faculty Employment
  • LOWER SCHOOL MATH SPECIALIST – LEAVE REPLACEMENT

    Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Lower School Math Specialist – Leave Replacement for October to January to provide virtual math instruction to students in Kindergarten through Grade 4. This is a remote teaching position. The successful candidate will possess excellent content knowledge; expertise in intervention and enrichment strategies for mathematics; a passion for teaching and learning; creativity and a thirst for innovation; enthusiasm for working with students, families, and colleagues; a growth mindset; and a sense of humor.

    She or he will be able to inspire and empower students to learn; collaborate and engage in daily conversation and experiences with students and colleagues; write well; and commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Teach students in daily virtual K-4 to establish foundational math skills and extend learning in small groups, large groups, and/or 1:1 formats as appropriate.
    • Assess student progress and write narrative progress reports.
    • Maintain strong communication with families, homeroom teachers, administration, Learning Department colleagues, through written notes, documentation, and emails; calls; and in-person discussions.
    • Collaborate with Learning Department colleagues to provide guidance about outside resources and advise in curriculum and instruction development.
    • Actively participate in a positive school culture through shared duties and faculty meeting discussions.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education or another related field.

    Experience: 5 years teaching elementary learners with diverse needs. Experience with Math in Focus and/or Singapore Math programs strongly preferred.

     

    Specific Skills: Training in workshop models for instruction in mathematics; in-depth knowledge of mathematics curricula; demonstrated experience in differentiation, enrichment, and intervention strategies; facility with a variety of common academic assessments; facility with various platforms and programs for virtual instruction such as Google Meets, Classroom, Seesaw, etc.

    • Collaborate with Learning Department colleagues to observe students in classrooms; provide guidance about outside resources, and advise in curriculum and instruction development.
    • Read and interpret the results of neuropsychological evaluations; synthesize information and provide a summary for faculty and administration; make recommendations about classroom modifications and testing accommodations.
    • Serve as a resource to faculty by providing coaching, consultations, training, or in-service sessions to help meet the needs of students who learn differently.

  • FACULTY SUBSTITUTE TEACHER: MIDDLE AND UPPER SCHOOLS

    Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Faculty Substitute Teacher for our Middle and Upper School outdoor learning model, scheduled to run from September through November, 2020. The Faculty Substitute will be hired on a daily basis as need be to help to maintain an organized, efficient, and productive work environment for our students in the absence of their regular teacher(s). We seek candidates who are eager to engage students with patience, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor.

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Teaching: 

    • Support the academic program by covering classes in a teacher’s absence.
    • Supervise study hall periods.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Heads of Middle and Upper School and the Assistant Head of School for Academics.

    Additional Responsibilities: 

    • Help students transition and move from one activity to another.
    • Supervise lunch distribution as need be.

  • MIDDLE SCHOOL AND UPPER SCHOOL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT CHAIR

    Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Science Department Chair. The ideal candidate will promote the pursuit of academic excellence in the study and practice of science by inspiring our students and faculty alike. We seek a dynamic leader who is committed to diversity, equity, and holistic education, which are among the defining features of our school. S/he/they will demonstrate deep knowledge of curricular and pedagogical best practices, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and integrative and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning.


    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Teaching: 

    • Teach three classes/sections. 
    • Work with students on an individual basis, as need be, and engage them in science research and experimentation.
    • Keep accurate grades, effectively and supportively communicate with students and families, and provide written and oral feedback on student progress consistently throughout the school year.
    • Support the department’s commitment to serving a range of learners in innovative and engaging ways.


    Additional Responsibilities: 

    • Promote a vision for the department’s growth as a leader in science education.
    • Support faculty self-evaluation, professional development, and scholarship.
    • Lead regularly scheduled departmental meetings and participate in weekly faculty, grade-level, and department chair meetings.
    • Evaluate faculty within the context of departmental and individual goals, and motivate them to pursue professional growth.
    • Familiarize the department with NSTA position statements on Safety and School Science Instruction and adhere to New York state and municipal rules and regulations regarding safety in school science facilities.
    • Participate in school events throughout the academic year.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of School, Academics and the Head of School.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Master’s degree in a relevant field of study.

    Experience: 3-5 years of teaching experience preferred.
