Middle School Mini March Madness

NCAA March Madness is about to kick into high gear around the country, but here at Poly Prep, Middle School March Madness has already begun. Spirit Cup mini basketball games with Grades 5 & 6 in the Novogratz gym and Grades 7 & 8 in the Legacy gym had the crowds roaring on March 8.

Teams of three players, named for college teams such as Maryland, Syracuse, AU, and UCLA, played four-minute games on a half court until the final rounds. Teams were made up of three students or two students and a teacher. The tournament was single elimination with winners moving on and losers out of the competition.

Almost 20 teams of students and faculty participated in this Blue Devil Spirit Cup event. In both gyms, the exuberant Middle School fans cheered on their favorite teams as though it were an actual NCAA championship.

Congratulations to Syracuse University (Christian P. ’29, Jaece P. ’29, and Julian R. ’29) who won the Grades 5 & 6 tournament and East Los Angeles College (Benicio Q. ’27, George S.  ’27, and John M.  ’27) who won Grades 7 & 8!

The Blue vs Gray Spirit Cup tally for the academic year is now Blue – 1,000 and Gray – 940!
