“I like to think of myself as both teacher and collaborator. The classroom is an ever-changing workshop where we are constantly forming and re-shaping ideas and narratives that inform who we are within and outside of the academic setting. Learning from my students and engaging with a diverse group of young adults is one of my favorite parts of my job—it is something I look forward to every day.”

Beth Eby joined Poly’s History Department as an Upper School teacher in 2022. After growing up in Western New York, Beth pursued a bachelor’s degree in history at Smith College. She then went on to earn her PhD in U.S. history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Upon completion of her PhD, she spent three years as a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research and teaching focuses specifically on the histories of women and gender, sport history, and Indigenous history. When not teaching, you can often find Beth catching up on the latest sports news or enjoying a murder mystery novel. She is especially passionate about Buffalo sports and loves watching any major sporting event throughout the year.
