“The beauty of teaching world languages is that it’s an opportunity to give students a lifelong skill; something that they can continuously improve upon even after they graduate. I aim to give students the tools they need to make their first steps toward embracing new connections and limitless possibilities.”

Connor Black joined Poly’s World Languages Department in 2023 as a Middle and Upper School French teacher. He was born and raised in Northern California, and studied French at Sonoma State University. He spent two years in France, first as an exchange student at Paris-Nanterre University and then as a teaching assistant in the northern suburbs of Paris, before returning to America to earn his M.A. in French literature from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He has a special place in his heart for 17th-century French literature and for various writers from the Francophone world. Connor has taught in both high school and college classrooms, and takes great pleasure in being able to connect with his students over their personal interests and understanding how they interpret changes in language and culture through their own lenses. Outside the classroom, Connor enjoys following tennis, going to the cinema, and collecting French perfume. He is an animal lover and an avid backgammon player.
