Emily Gardiner Herzog P’24, ’27 serves as Chair of the Upper School Deans and in 2024 was named Director of College Guidance. A graduate of the Brearley School, she earned her bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in history and literature from Harvard College. Prior to earning her master’s in English education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and working briefly in the city’s public schools, she worked in the film and finance industries. Emily joined Poly’s English department in 2011 and progressively assumed more leadership responsibilities. In 2015, she began college counseling students and in 2017, she transitioned into the role of a full-time Upper School dean, then a newly-established position (and team). By 2020, she became Chair of the group. Always dedicated to working closely with students, Emily also co-ran the Senior Plan, a capstone project for all graduating seniors allowing for research in a chosen topic and presentation before a faculty panel, from 2015-2023, and her passion for teaching still brings her into the classroom in some capacity each year. A Brooklynite since she was one year old, Emily is happy to live here today with her husband and two sons.
