“I love marrying the academic and scholarly study of art history with the practice of making art so that students really get to exercise their intellect and their creativity in tandem.”

Poly alumna Laura Beiles Coppola ’95 returned to Poly in 2014, bringing her extensive experience at MoMA as Assistant Director, Adult Programs, in the Department of Education to our Visual Arts Department. Laura earned a bachelor’s in art history and Italian from Middlebury College and a master’s in art history from Hunter College. In 2018, she became Visual Arts Department Chair. She teaches Textile Arts and art history courses that are based on partnerships with NYC cultural institutions such as American Art History with the Brooklyn Museum and Advanced Museum Studies with the Met. Through Poly’s Arts Outreach program, Laura works with contemporary artists, bringing them to Poly for residencies or commissions.
