“I want my students to take their science knowledge out of the classroom and understand the world around them.”

Luke Davoren joined the Poly faculty as a Middle School science teacher in 2022. Luke’s inspiration to teach came from his high school chemistry teacher, who taught a food chemistry class. “There, I began to understand that recipes were just chemical reactions to produce flavor. It made me realize that science was everywhere and it could help me understand the world.” Luke attended Wesleyan University, where he studied chemistry, molecular biology and biochemistry. After college, Luke worked in leukemia research at a cancer hospital in NYC before switching careers to teaching. Luke began his education career in 2019 at BASIS Independent Brooklyn, where he taught middle and high school science. His favorite part of the job is showing students the real-life applications of science to the world around them. Outside of the classroom, Luke is an avid rock climber and hiker. He spends many weekends upstate in the Catskills or the Shawangunk Mountains.
