“For me, teaching music means transmitting my passion for music to students. I started to consider myself a musician when I was eight, and I never thought I would pursue another career if not that of a musician.”

Simone Ferraresi was hired as a part-time piano accompanist and to teach after-school piano lessons in 2006. In 2014, he joined the faculty full time to teach AP Music Theory and now also teaches Fundamentals of Music. Simone earned a bachelor’s from Frescobaldi Conservatory, a Master of Music from the Academy of Music (Vienna), and Dip. RAM from the Royal Academy of Music (London). Simone, who is a native of Italy, is a constant presence at the piano at all Poly’s concerts on the Dyker Heights campus. Many people may not know that Simone had a career as a concert pianist performing internationally for 20 years before coming to Poly. “My last name means ‘from Ferrara,’” he says. “I grew up in my father’s piano store.” His father was a piano tuner and technician who installed organs in churches all over Europe. Simone is also the founder of the Ferrara Piano Festival, which was held for the first time in 2014.

Aside from music, Simone’s main interests include science, astrophysics, cosmology, languages, and cooking. He is fluent in Italian and English, and he can understand, read, and speak intermediate Japanese.
