“Educating in a language encompasses more than the cultivation of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. It also entails the profound task of awakening students to a broader understanding of the world, thereby motivating them to forge a meaningful connection with their surroundings, and expanding the very essence of their existence within the world.”

Upper School Mandarin teacher Ruoran Huang joined Poly’s World Languages Department in 2023. Her scholastic journey includes a rigorous four-year pursuit of Chinese languages and literature at Shaanxi Normal University in Xi’an, China, culminating in the attainment of her bachelor’s degree in Arts. Post-graduation, Ruoran applied her academic ardor to the realm of education, dedicating a year to language instruction in her home country. She later studied at Rutgers University and Princeton University and acquired her master’s degree from the Department of Asian Languages, Literature, and Cultures at Rutgers. This erudition seamlessly transitioned into her role as a Mandarin educator, delivering Chinese language classes at different levels. She enjoys guiding students to explore interdisciplinary activities in the target language and encouraging students to apply their knowledge and skills to express deeper thinking. Beyond the classroom, Ruoran’s passions encompass photography, videography, tennis, and skateboarding.
