To me, the best features about Poly range from the teachers, the students, the community, the food, the fresh air, the beautiful campus, the laughs you hear walking from class to class, the willingness for change and accommodations; everything that makes Poly unique and stand out from all the other schools across NYC is truly what I like the best about Poly.
So many of my teachers truly love what they’re doing and this helps make every class extremely enjoyable but also much more educational and preparatory for my future. Some of the main extracurriculars that I like the best are Debate and Math Team/Math competitions. What I enjoy most about debate in itself is going up to judge and debating your heart out against an opponent team. The competition in the event has always made it one of my favorite activities since my first tournament in Grade 7. Doing debate has also helped me learn more about the world’s history and current events as I researched dozens of articles in preparation for tournaments. And most importantly, the Debate team at Poly is absolutely amazing. I have built camaraderie and made friends through debate. In terms of the Math Team and going to math competitions, I love competing and this activity has also taught me how to problem solve while applying and learning countless topics in math that go beyond simple skills taught in the classroom. I’ve always enjoyed math and attending math competitions was a perfect way for me to fuel my love of the subject.
